Just before Christmas I visited Eataly in London
.
These that know me will remember that my husband is half Italian. As a family we are real foodies and for obvious reasons, one of our favourite cuisines is Italian. We love a visit to an interesting food shop or indeed, a foreign supermarket if we’re holiday and on the advice of a friend we decided to give Eataly a visit.
Eataly is located right next to Liverpool Street Station in London so is really easy to get to. It’s pretty spectacular as soon as you arrive and may seem a little overwhelming. Luckily however, the very first thing you come across is the coffee bar which is the ideal space to get your bearings.
We ordered coffee and pastries (a donut stuffed absolutely full of pistachio goo for the husband and a sweet bun filled with hazelnut cream for me) and eased ourselves into the experience
.
After the coffee bar the first section you come across is the sweet department. This is beautifully decorated with jewel like lights inviting you in. They had so many different chocolates and sweets here as well as a huge array of panettone in almost every flavour you could think of.
You then found yourself in what can best be described as a food court. There are several eateries here serving pasta, pizza and sandwiches as well as bar. This is a great place to grab an informal lunch. We walked through here at first in order to go upstairs where the Italian food to take home is located.
Upstairs there is a huge amount to take in. More pasta than you can imagine, fresh fruit and veg as well as a meat counter, and a cheese counter. There are also Italian coffees, biscuits, yet more sweets and chocolate and an absolutely astounding wine department
.
We selected quite the basket full and made our way back down to pay and check out the bar and food court for lunch.
Eataly is absolutely excellent if you are a fan of Italian food. As well as the informal dining there are more formal restaurants for those wanting something a little more sophisticated. The range of food both to eat whiles you are there and to take home is amazing, so if you fancy a tase of Italy next time you are in London I highly recommend it.
